[July 1998 journal entry] I was asked during a breakfast meeting with a group of young physicians what happens for me in the exercise of silence. I commented on:
- ‘centering down’ (inner simplification),
- reflection,
- a widening range of vision,
- humility/modesty,
- recovered balance between action and contemplation,
- sharpened ability/capacity to listen (which relates so directly to effectiveness in being truly present with others).
