I have inserted below a brief
message I sent my many friends in Palestine conveying solidarity with
them. I remain deeply/categorically alienated from the ugly image of
‘American’ and the denigration of basic decency the current administration
presents to the international community.
Dear friends, I am writing today with a very heavy heart regarding the injury and loss of life precipitated by my country’s reckless and dangerous president (who to my deep distress is supported or at least tolerated by millions of Americans). One of my cherished quotes from Albert Camus’ novel The Plague is spoken by the character Tarrou (Dr. Rieux’s friend/encourager) --
“That’s why I decided to take in every predicament the victim’s side, so as to reduce the damage done.”
Please be encouraged by the reminder that many in the US and around the world share this resolve and the responsibilities that follow. Douglas
