Surgical Ethics Education Resources #15

[Sent – 13 April 2019 to the 170+ surgeons et al of our Surgical Ethics (Education) Consortium]

Greetings from St. Louis and WashU. For my ‘Surgical Ethics Education Resources -- #15’ communication, I am calling your attention to a 2018 Surgery article you may already have seen. The article’s title -- ‘Ethical considerations in the use of the Pernkopf atlas of anatomy: a surgical case study’. Several of us here at WashU were involved in the authorship of this article. The article’s centering the ethical challenge and the decision-making in an actual case reflects the format of our department’s 4th-year medical student ‘Ethical Challenges’ elective introduced by Dr. Kodner many years ago and now led by Dr. Kopar. This format gives the article its potential for use as a resource for surgical ethics education with medical students and residents. We welcome your feedback. Doug
